Car wash and car care experts recommend us to wash our car regularly after enduring snow, to remove embedded salt and prevent rust caused by road salt, as it can damage both the paint and the tyres. They advise not to neglect our vehicle in winter, as road salt -used to avoid the formation of ice and mud and to melt the snow- may damage the car but also jeopardise safety when driving.

ISTOBAL, the Spanish leader in car wash and car care solutions, has warned that the high corrosive power of salt can rust other car parts such as the shock absorbers, the exhaust pipe, the brakes and the radiator. That is why they recommend us to wash our car once a week, particularly if we drive on roads with salt. To get salt residue off, ISTOBAL advises to use plenty of water. Jet washes and rollovers are a very effective choice.

It is convenient to use wash programs with high pressures or foams, to help dissolve the salt. It is also essential to check and thoroughly clean the underchassis and the tyres, as salt can become embedded there. For a professional cleaning, experts recommend brushes in jet washes, as well as the disk wheel-wash on ISTOBAL rollovers, as it can reach all rim grooves and therefore ensure a quality result.

If the rims are very dirty, it is better to use specific professional pre-wash products, which are more effective and extend tyre life thanks to the corrosion inhibitors in their formula.

ISTOBAL also recommend the use of waxes to protect the paint; they create a protective film on the bodywork that keeps the vehicle clean for a longer time.  Waxes enhance the gloss and make the cleaning last longer thanks to their water-repellent properties. Besides, during the rainy season, the use of water-repellent waxes improves safety, which is also recommended by experts. These wax types remove rain drops from the windscreen at speeds over 80Km/h.

Finally, experts also recommend a good dry when we get our car washed in winter, as it is particularly important this time of the year, to avoid ice forming when there is water on the surface of the vehicle.
